Gonos Project (working title)

Do you consider yourself a child or a parent?
If you have – or imagine you will – experience the latter, do you remember when you transitioned from one stage to the other?
Do you believe that one condition restricts or excludes the other?
What happens when both coexist?
Could we also identify a third nature/condition as a process of transformation?
——
The central concept of this project has its roots in the personal and ongoing experiences of parenthood among the team members, as well as the fundamental questions that accompany them: What does it mean to be – and what happens when one becomes – a parent? Does one instantly acquire this role when having children, or is it a long and gradual process? How we are born, grow, and learn to live is shown to us by our ancestors, both biological and non-biological, just as we pass something on to our descendants. This sequence constitutes the carrier of the entire civilization. Concepts such as heritage, authority, rejection, trust, forgiveness and autonomy are built and tested among family members, and then transferred to larger groups. The natural world is full of examples and typologies of parenthood that mirror those encountered in human families. Animals master similar behaviors, protective or destructive, from normal to extremes. Instead of thinking that humans are something special and unique, prioritizing our species based on differences, it might be more useful to identify the similarities, with the hope that through them we can better understand ourselves and our societies.
